FAQ
What turf varieties do you have?
Turf'd stock Empire Zoysia, Sapphire Buffalo and Wintergreen Couch.
Do you offer turf laying?
No. Turf'd simply sells great quality and great priced turf. Most (if not all) of our customers pickup and lay their own turf themselves.
How much does 1 roll of turf cost?
1 roll or 1 cut of turf costs between $6 and $15 per m2, depending on the type of turf you purchase. Generally, couch is cheaper than buffalo or zoysia.
What's the best time to lay turf?
While Queenslanders can lay turf all year round, in the colder climates it is best to lay your turf in Spring.
How much should I water my new turf?
Each turf variety will have different watering requirements. But when you first lay your turf it is very important to soak or fully water your new turf every 2 days, for the first 3 weeks of laying. Generally you can revert to watering once weekly after this.
What's the biggest difference between couch and buffalo?
Couch will sow it roots deep into the soil, but as a result will grow very slowly horizontally. Comparatively, Buffalo grows very quickly horizontally and can provide a thick dense covering in a shorter period. Buffalo does not have deep roots by comparison.
How should I pickup my turf?
It's important to bring the right vehicle to pickup your turf. We recommend a tray back ute with foldable sides. Tub style utes will need to be hand-loaded as we cannot use a forklift to load these style of utes.

Which turf should you choose?
Choosing the right turf for your lawn depends on your lifestyle, location, and how much time you want to spend maintaining it. The three most popular options in Australia are Couch, Buffalo, and Zoysia—each with unique qualities that suit different needs.
Couch
Couch is a fast-growing, fine-leafed turf ideal for sunny areas. It’s perfect for families who want a soft, sports-friendly surface, though it does require regular mowing and edging to keep it neat.
Buffalo
Buffalo has broader leaves and is known for its shade tolerance, making it a great option for backyards with trees or partial sun. It’s tough under foot traffic and low-allergy, making it ideal for kids and pets. While it grows slower than Couch, it still needs occasional trimming to stay lush.
Zoysia
Zoysia is the lowest maintenance of the three, with a slow growth rate and excellent drought resistance. Its soft texture and weed resistance make it perfect for homeowners wanting a tidy, low-effort lawn.
When selecting a turf, think about how much sun your lawn gets, how much time you can spend on upkeep, and the feel you want underfoot. Each variety has strengths—choosing the right one will set your lawn up for long-term success.

Turf Preparation
Proper preparation is key to a successful turf installation. Start by clearing the area of any weeds, old grass, and debris. Then, level the soil and ensure there’s adequate drainage to prevent pooling. Spread a quality underlay soil mix to around 100mm depth, and lightly compact the surface. It’s also a good time to apply a starter fertiliser to promote strong root growth. Once your surface is smooth and even, you're ready to lay your turf. Taking the time to prepare properly will give your new lawn the best chance to thrive from day one.

Maintenance and Care
Maintaining your new turf ensures it stays healthy, green, and looking its best year-round. In the first few weeks, water daily to help the roots establish. Once established, adjust watering based on the season and rainfall. Regular mowing keeps your lawn tidy—just avoid cutting more than one-third of the leaf height at a time. Fertilise every 6–8 weeks during the growing season to support strong growth and colour. Keep an eye out for weeds or pests and treat early if needed. With consistent care, your turf will develop into a lush, durable lawn that adds value and enjoyment to your home.
